Stains and Scratches on Aluminum Flagpoles

Over time, aluminum flagpoles may develop dirt, water stains, or scratches. Fortunately, most are easy to restore. Start with a gentle wash using water and mild soap. For stubborn marks, apply lemon oil with pumice, or use mild cleaners like Lysol or 409, always testing a hidden area first.

Water staining often occurs when packaged poles remain damp. Removing wrapping immediately after delivery prevents this issue. For tougher corrosion spots, products like Ox-Out 536 effectively lift discoloration; rinse thoroughly afterward.

Visible scratches on brushed aluminum can be refinished by sanding along the grain with an 80-grit aluminum oxide belt — the same direction as the factory lines. Avoid sanding anodized or painted finishes.

Regular cleaning protects your investment and maintains a satin-smooth, professional appearance.
